Press RELEASE

THROWBACK COUNTRY ROCKER SUZY OLESON RELEASES DEBUT SOLO ALBUM

Multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Suzy Oleson has announced the release of her eponymous debut solo album.  Known for her powerful lyrics and unique vocal stylings, Oleson has become a musician to watch, or as John Lawless of Bluegrass Today stated earlier in her career, “you sense a real star quality in this young lady.”

Born and raised in Austin, TX, this graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston moved to Nashville a year ago to record this first solo album with friends who lived there. She had recorded two albums previously with Boston-based bluegrass band Chasing Blue and an EP with Nashville-based The Local Memories.

Now ensconced in Music City, Oleson has joined the ranks of other strong women musicians in the area including Kim Logan, Margo Price, Jessica Lee Wilkes, and Lucy B. Cochran, who are spearheading a change in female-lead country music in part by crossing it with a retro take on early rock ‘n roll.

Suzy Oleson’s new album was recently characterized as “fresh, original, and uplifting,” by legendary music host Ted Branson of KOOP radio in Austin. “Great choice of songs and the backing musicians are wonderful.  I will be airing it on many shows to come,” he stated.

The album includes original songs that range from upbeat rockin’ country, to heartfelt folk ballads and toe-tapping bluesy numbers. They show her love of the Beatles, Kinks, and the Rolling Stones as well as contemporary female artists like Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, and Gillian Welch. All of the songs have radio-friendly lyrics and one is a cover of a George Harrison tune called “I Live for You.”  All in all, the album fits well into the Americana genre or as music legend Dale Watson, with whom she once shared the stage, would say, Ameripolitan.
